2017 Quilt Block Challenge Winner

Another Family Tradition was created this year with the 2017 Linn County Fair Quilt Block Challenge contest. Connie’s Quilt Shop supplied the kits that included colors from this year’s fair logo. Fifty quilt blocks were purchased. Contestants had to use all fabrics and create a design with a chance to win a $25 gift certificate from Connie’s Quilt Shop.

2017 Quilt Blocks

Blocks were displayed at the 2017 Linn County Fair June 28th to July 2nd. The blocks were judged for the Viewer’s Choice and the winner was block #18 created by Sandy Feldman of Alburnett.  Later the blocks will be made into a quilt to be raffled off at the following year’s fair. All proceeds will go towards improvements of The Linn County Fair.

The 2016 Quilt Blocks were quilted into a beautiful quilt that was raffled off and the winner was announced Sunday, July 2nd at the fair. The winner was Dave Roll.

Fairy Garden Contest Winners

The Fairy Garden Contest was open to all ages and residents and was held on Friday, June 30th. No artificial plants were allowed. Wheel barrel size and under were acceptable. They were judged on eye appeal, creativity, theme and healthy plants.

2017 Homebrew & Amateur Wine Making Contest Winners

The Beer Competition was held on Saturday, July 1st in the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building as part of the Homebrew competition. Contestants brought their home brewed beer to see how they their skills rate. The beers were judged on sight, smell, taste, finish and overall.

Home Brewers Competition had a total of 15 entries in many of the categories ranging from foreign extra stouts to Ciders and IPAs.

  • Best of Show went to: Duncan Woodward with a Wired-Haired Schnorfler IPA
  • 2nd Best of show to Scott Whitson with a Dry Hopped Cider
  • 3rd Best of show to Patrick Frank with a Spring Maibock

The Wine Competition was also held on Saturday, July 1st in the Lynn Dunn Memorial Building. Contestants brought their home brewed wine to see how they their skills rate. The wines were judged on sight, smell, taste, finish and overall.

Wine Making Competition had a total of 22 entries in many of the different classes ranging from Dandelion wines and Tomato wines, Country wines and Iowa native grape wines.

  • 2nd to Ken Kuhlman with a Blueberry wine
  • 3rd to Ron Waite with a Black Raspberry wine

2017 Linn County Fair 4-H Cat Show

The Linn County 4-H Cat show was held on Friday, June 30, at the Linn County Fairgrounds.   4-H youth who enrolled in the cat project in the fall took advantage of this opportunity to exhibit their animals and to demonstrate what they have learned for the judge.
