Mutton Bustin’ Rodeo – contestants wanted

A wooly sheep, a brave little rider and a roaring crowd is the scene for Mutton Bustin’ rodeo at The Linn County Fair next Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:30pm in the grandstand.

River Valley Cooperative and Z102.9 brings you this free event. T & C Rodeo Company will be provide the sheep and fun that comes with any Mutton Bustin’ Rodeo.  If you have a child that is between zero to 8 years old and weighs under 65 pounds, they are eligible to be a rider in the Mutton Bustin competition.

To register your child on Wednesday, June 22nd, go to the announcers stage on the back of the track prior to the event  Registration will be open from 6:30pm to 7:30pm that night and child must be accompanied by an adult that is able to sign a waiver for the child. There is not a limit on number of contestants, all are welcomed. 

Helmets will be provided for all riders. We recommend the riders wear tennis shoes or boots, jeans/pants, and a comfortable top.

There will be two age groups, 0-5 and 6-8 years. Each child will have 6 seconds to hold on to the sheep with out falling off. Points will be award for length child is on sheep, to how they hold onto the sheep and overall performance. Top three riders will receive prizes in each class. The winner in each class will win a ticket to compete in the short round at the Iowa State Fair this year for their chance to be the Iowa State Fair Button Bustin’ Champion.

Then for children 9 to 14 years old will have a chance at the Wild Sheep Scramble that will occur during the Mutton Bustin event. Stickers will be placed on a sheep that will have different prizes listed on them. The sheep will be let go and the kids will need to run after the sheep to try to grab one of the stickers. Once they have a sticker they will be bring it to the announcer table to claim their prize. Registration will happen between 6:30 to 7:30pm that night at the announcers stage at the back of the track. No limit to number of contestants.
