An outdoor cooking contest designed to promote Iowa meat is being planned by the Linn County Farm Bureau at The Linn County Fair in Central City. You don’t have to be an expert chef to participate; you just need to enjoy cooking outdoors with quality Iowa meat.
Those wishing to compete in the grilling contest must bring their own grilling equipment and cook on-site, with check-in at 9am on Sunday, June 26th at the Linn County Fair. Farm Bureau’s cookout contest is open to any Iowa resident age 13 years or older. Farm Bureau or affiliated company employees are not eligible.
Contestants can compete in one of the following six categories: beef (excluding brisket), pork, lamb, poultry, turkey, and combo/specialty. Contestants can also compete as an individual or on a team, and there is also a youth category for those between the age of 13 and 18 years as of August 1.
A Cookout Champion will be named, and awards will be given to winners in each cooking category. Special recognition will also go to winners of the showmanship, youth and team cooking categories.
The Linn County Cookout Contest will be held on Sunday, June 26th next to the Kelly’s Concrete Hospitality Tent at the fairgrounds. Check-in is at 9am with judging at 2pm and results being announced at 4pm.
The Cookout Champion, along with all first place category winners and winners of the showmanship, youth and team awards will have the chance to compete in the state finals at the Iowa State Fair on August 16, 2016.
