Every year The Linn County Fair Association has a “Friend of the Fair”. This year the Association has chosen two “Friends of the Fair” for their hard work and support of The Linn County Fair. The awards were present during the Opening Program of the fair on Wednesday, June 25th at 6pm.
The first “Friend of the Fair” Award went to Don and Shirley Henle. Don became The Linn County Fair Association’s grounds keeper three years ago. He was instrumental in many improvement projects on the grounds, including building the bleachers in the beef arena and rebuilding the bleachers in the swine arena. Don is handy at building just about anything, while Shirley was always on the fairgrounds during the fair helping and cleaning up.
The second “Friend of the Fair” Award went to the Delaware County Fair Association. Thanks to their gracious offer to allow The Linn County Fair to use their grounds after the Linn County Fairgrounds got flooded on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the start of the 2013 Linn County Fair. The Delaware County Fair Association helped made it possible for the Linn County 4-H and FFA livestock shows to go on last year despite the cancellation of all the grounds and grandstand events. The Linn County Fair Association appreciated their willingness to allow us to be the first to show in Delaware County Fair’s new livestock arena. Several members of the Delaware County Fair Board members that were on hand to accept the award received a standing ovation from the many fair goers, 4-H/FFA members, and Linn County Fair Association members as they thanked them for their help and support!
