2012 Results – Open Amateur Wine Making Competition

Back again this year was the Open Amateur Wine Making Competition at The Linn County Fair held on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Several contestants brought their home brewed wine to see how they their skills rate. The wines were judged on sight, smell, taste, finish and overall.

  1. Ron Waite of Anamosa, with Non-Varietal- white, dry wine, LaCross & LaCresent grapes
  2. Chad Steffen of Marion, with Country Wine- berries, sweet, Wild Elderberry
  3. Chad Steffen of Marion, with Country Wine- fruit, white sweet, Lemon

Blue Awards “Outstanding Wines”:

  • Heidi Steffen of Marion, Country Wine- fruit, red sweet, Cherry
  • Ron Waite of Anamosa, with Non-Varietal- white, dry wine, LaCross & LaCresent grapes
  • Chad Steffen of Marion, with Country Wine- berries, sweet, Wild Elderberry
  • Ron Waite of Anamosa, with Country Wine – berries, sweet, Wild Black Raspberry
  • Chad Steffen of Marion, with Country Wine- fruit, white sweet, Lemon

Red Awards “Sound Wines”:

  • Bob Anderson of Central City, with Non-varietal- white, sweet, Brianna
  • Heidi Steffen of Marion, with Country Wine- fruit, white sweet, Lemon/Cherry
  • Ron Waite of Anamosa, with Non-varietal- red, sweet, Concord Grape
  • Joe Steffen of Charlotte, with Non-varietal- concord grape
  • Ron Waite of Anamosa, with Non-varietal- red, dry, St. Croix & Frontenac grapes

White Awards “Noticeable defect”:

  • Heidi Steffen of Marion, with Country wine- rhubarb
  • David Kircher of Center Point, with Country wine- rhubarb
